What other things will I need to buy for my project besides your professional services?

Remember, every project is unique, and so the following things may or may not apply to you.

  • Domain Name(s). These cost approximately $25-35/year to register.

  • Hosting Service. Using a hosting provider is a relatively low-cost alternative to achieving a presence on the Web. For standard business service, there is typically a set-up fee and a monthly fee. It's very comparative to establishing phone service...$10/month for basic, no-frills service up to $100s/month.

  • 3rd Party Graphics. Rather than having to create all of your graphics from scratch, you can choose to lease graphics or buy royalty-free collections.

  • Software. If you want to maintain your web site in-house, you may need to purchase the programs with which the site was created. Software may include an HTML editor, graphic software, or software designed for programming applications.

  • 3rd Party Application Services. Rather than having a custom-designed, web-based application, you can lease one that's already bee created much more affordably.

  • Equipment & Connectivity Services. If you want to host your web site in-house, you may need to purchase web servers and an array of specially configured desktops for a proper testing environment. (For selection of equipment, I would default to one of my associates whose expertise falls in this area.)

  • Personnel. If you want to host or maintain your site in-house, you will need the personnel with skills in the targeted equipment, network environment, software and programming languages -- all which require salary considerations.

  • Maintenance Fees. Keeping your site updated and upgraded, a maintenance schedule (whether in-house or outsourced) will require a budget of it's own.
