An architectural diagram is important when solidifying the scope of the project. It will:
  • Help the team understand what they are building
  • Get ideas onto paper for review and discussion
  • Quantify the number of pages, concepts, and other deliverables the team will be asked to complete
  • Clarify communication between the business team (the advisors) and the web team (the builders)

The diagrams are important even after the site is complete to

  • Show how special sections of the web have been built that are not obvious.
  • Instruct others how to update and maintain the site once it's complete

If you tried to build a house without working out the architecture ahead of time, youâd have a disaster on your hands.

Building a web site, database or program is no different. Careful, logical planning on paper saves you a great deal of expense and grief as you work.

Good architectural drawings also make it easier for members of your development team to work together. With a single set of drawings, team members understand how their piece of the puzzle works together with the whole. It is easier for them to work independently, and also to collaborate on revisions and changes as they come up.
