Domain Names are Like Phone Numbers

A domain to your web site is like a phone number to your residence. When you register a domain name, you do not own it. Instead, you get to use it for the duration of one year. After this period, you have the option to renew your registered domain.

Domain names must be pointed at the server (host) where you web site will reside.

Transferring Domain Names / Changing Registrars

When you register a domain name, you do so through a registrar. (Conversely, you are called the registrant.)
