There are many ways of exchanging money: cash, check, cashier's check, traveler's checks, credit card, debit card....and the list goes on.

eCommerce is the means by which two parties exchange money over the World Wide Web. Most transactions online are accomplished using credit cards; however, the ability to use other means -- such as checks and bank transfers -- is growing.

Things to consider:

  • How does your customer base currently submit their funds to you?
  • How does credit card transactions currently fit into your business model and practices?
  • Does your bank or merchant account provider have an affiliate or proprietary eCommerce package?
  • Different types of inventory require different purchasing decisions.
