"Green" Renewable Energy Web Hosting Review

The Green Web host out of Ontario, Canada is operated by one man, easily reachable during normal business hours through a forwarding system to his cell phone. When I spoke with John Reel, proprietor of the Green Web Host, he hesitated when I asked him whether his servers were powered by renewable energy. 

John leases his servers from a data center in Texas -- which does not use renewable energy. He says passionately that no data centers are green, that any 100% green host doesn't have the requirements he needs to serve his high end clients, and that solar panels (for example) could never meet the energy requirements that the data center meets. 

"What if they could?" I ask him. He wonders if I'm selling him something. And I confess to selling him an idea: the possibility of 100% renewable energy doing just that.

In the meantime, his commitment to being an eco-friendly host is to clean the air by purchasing 100kWh a month of renewable energy units per 10 sites he hosts.
