"Green" Renewable Energy Web Hosting Review

Trains being the mammoth coal consuming machines that we think of, the company name is deceiving at first paired with the service of Green Hosting, but Kevin Boxer of Locomotive Media changed my outlook.

"If you consider that the word locomotive really means energy in motion," he says, "and that modern trains are powered by electricity, it isn't such a stretch."

Happily, Kevin is offsetting his energy consumption with wind power -- not coal. I called and received and got a standard answering machine-style outgoing message where I left a message and later when I called back having received no answer, I thought I'd called a wrong number when he answered with just a hello. 

A recent graduate of graphic design and now teaching full time, Kevin supports his hosting clients after normal business hours. By the fall, he hopes to have additional help to take on new clients during the day.

The locomotive Media web site was strangely slow to load, even after the initial visit. And there was not much information about the servers or how the business operates, a bit of a red flag for me, but Kevin was very forthcoming that he operates as a reseller of one of the data centers so that he has the uptime, server redundancy and other services that hosting clients have come to expect.
