Web hosting is a type of Internet service that provides systems for storing
web pages, images, applications,
audio, video, or other content accessible via the Web.
A web server is simply a computer with special software
installed on it. The computer can be as simple as a desktop computer
or as fancy as a one of a series of specially designed computers
that are housed on a rack in a cool, static-free, secured
facility. These facilities are referred to as "data
centers."

Web hosts or hosting providers are companies
that provide space on one of their web servers and the high-speed
pipeline of that server to the Internet.
Most hosting providers today are resellers of hosting
space. Like land owners, they buy a chunk of space and data
transfer from the major data centers and parcel it out. Resellers
are also responsible for providing technical support to their customers.
A good reseller is one that has enough technical
knowledge to troubleshoot with the data center any problems
that may occur with your web site.
