Listing your site on a search engine is relatively simple. It involves:
  1. Going to the site you wish your listing to appear on
  2. Locating the submission form.  This might be the most challenging part.
  3. Typing in the URL of your site
  4. Waiting for the engine to "crawl" through your web site to record the pages in it's database.

Listing you site on a directory is a bit more strategic.

  1. Going to the site you wish your listing to appear on
  2. Determining under what category(-ies) your site should be listed
  3. Locating the submission form for that category.
  4. Typing in the URL of your site
  5. Waiting for the engine to "crawl" through your web site to record the pages in it's database.
