The Usability Specialist, Ho-Hum Fallacy

"My web design is good.  I have tested it against 8 users and all of them were able to complete all of the tasks on the first try!"

More Fallacies

  • Usability tests that produce perfect results likely have something wrong with them.

Pilot tests help a usability specialist work out errors in the test -- the specialist may be using a line of questioning that "gives away" the answer.

    Objectivity
keeps the usability specialist from influencing data.  He or she must be careful not to use gestures, tone of voice or other clues

  • Perfect scores are a RED FLAG in a usability study. Human beings do not respond to a problem exactly like one another.
